The registration fee covers needed materials during the recruitment process. This is a one time $125 fee.
In general, the initial new member semester is the most expensive due to some one-time fees. After initiation into the sorority, the dues are reduced for the following semesters. The new member fees vary by chapter and range from $876 to $1,890
Dues cover different expenses depending on the organization. It may be important for you to know if certain expenses are covered, such as your sorority badge, t-shirts, etc so ask about it during recruitment! Dues vary by chapter and range from $414 to $1,384 per semester.
Keep in mind that dues generally don't cover "extras". Examples are tote bags, sunglasses, t-shirts, and any of the many products you can purchase with your letters on it. While it's possible you may receive some as gifts, if it's important to you to stock up on sorority swag, you'll want to consider that as you budget.
Since sorority membership is a financial decision, it's okay to ask about payment options. Most chapters offer some type of payment plan so you don't necessarily have to pay your dues all at once.
Some sororities may offer scholarships or financial assistance with dues. However, those opportunities are more likely to be offered to initiated members, so it's still important to plan for the immediate future. Also, financial assistance will likely be available to members who uphold the academic and social standards of the organization. It's yet another reason to keep your grades up and be responsible!
Starting this academic year Panhellenic Councils across the country will be adopting something known as Financial Transparency. Financial Transparency, in short, is a way for each of our chapters to provide Potential New Members with their chapter’s finances specifically regarding new member and active member dues. With finances being an important thing to consider when joining a Panhellenic chapter, we hope this will allow individuals to understand exactly what their money is going toward and gain a better understanding of what your finances would look like as a part of any given chapter.
During Round 3 of primary recruitment chapters will be discussing Financial Transparency with the Potential New Members. Chapters will do this by providing informational presentations breaking down their chapter’s finances in a way that is easily understandable by PNMs. In addition to this, upon the end of the round Potential New Members will be provided with a filled out Financial Transparency Document which will contain all information spoken about in the chapter’s presentation. Individuals are encouraged to keep this document and use it when thinking about finances and how they may play a role in your decision on which chapter may be the best fit for you.
